Version 0.92 program released

This patch is mostly fixes and adjustments, nothing big new here. Click here for a complete list of changes.

Please note that this patch must be unzipped after you have version 0.91 installed. Install the file into your Fantasy Quake directory (usually \quake\fq).

Version 0.91 patch released

After over a year of nothing, here, at last, is an update. The main new features are two new monsters, and some needed adjustments based on experience I've gained from creating the former Quake 40K (it is about to go through a name and URL change). Click here for a complete list of changes.

Please note that this patch must be unzipped after you have version 0.673 installed. Also, be sure to preserve subdirectories/folders when you unzip it, or it won't be able to find the new monster models.

12/24 = ok, the GL vispatch is ready for pak1.pak (the main level set) just download and extract anywhere, and run the install.bat. Let me know of any problems.

Also note that from here on out, the entire FQ patch is offered only in PAK form. PAK0.PAK is the models, sounds, gfx and PAK1.PAK is the main level set. PAK2.PAK is the winterized maps - that pak is optional.

One-Shot Download = Download either the ZIP file version or the self-extractor EXE version.
  • If downloading the ZIP, extract it into your QUAKE directory, allow it to create it's own subdirectories. To do that, simply use default settings in Winzip, or PKUNZIP with the -d command line parameter.

Splitfile Download (recommended) = Download each WinRAR file into a temporary directory, (you may need to shift-click on the links to "save as", be sure to preserve the proper names!,) then run "fq.exe". It will prompt you where to extract the files. Choose c:\quake\fq, or wherever you have your Quake directory. (It will create whatever subdirectory you type in, but we recommend "fq" as the name.) Afterwards you may saftely delete the WinRAR files. (Suggest that you test out the fq installation first, of course :-)

GLQuake users: If you want to convert those maps to the GL version, merely download and run this vispatch. More information about Vispatch and what it does can be found on Razor.

Highly Recommended Files:
MEGA-HUGE ONE SHOT FILE - 24 Megs
ZIP format (compatible with all platforms)

WinRAR'ed Splitfiles = 1.4 megs each. Download all into temporary directory and run "fq.exe". When prompted, extract all files to an "fq" subdirectory (i.e. c:\quake\fq)
Stomped (available now)
Winterized map pak!
Extract into your FQ directory. Run map "winter" to load it up. (i.e. use the "changelevel winter" command at the console, while playing Fantasy Quake.) = 5 megs, 6 levels

Extra Maps: All previously offered extra maps are now included in main downloads.

Quake2 Offerings:

Da Tank - Authored by Invictus (330k) DM map as featured on A World of Quake.

  • ftp.cdrom.com (330k zipped) - Extract into your quake2/baseq2/maps directory (make it if it don't exist). Load it at the console with the MAP TANK21 command or at the DOS command line "c:\quake2>quake2 +map tank21".

Level Developer's Corner

So you want to make your own maps for Fantasy Quake? Had an oh-so-perfect idea for a deathmatch level? Well, it'll be easier with this file. (530K). Bear in mind this is sort of an unsupported thing. Please keep questions about this to a minimum. If I even get so much as one e-mail saying, "how do I make a level?" I will beat you about the head and shoulders with a large stick. This stuff is only for experienced level designers.

It contains these things:

RotP.qc = BSP editor add-in, defining the custom entites for use in your level. It's straight ASCII, so even if you use Worldcraft, you can still use this file as a reference.

Fqrotp.wad = Texture wad

Models_fq.dat = BSP add-in defining which models to display in the editor window. Back up your current copy of MODELS.DAT, then rename Models_fq.dat to models.dat. Edit if necessary. If you use Worldcraft, just delete this file, it'll be of no use.

Qoole add-in Entity Listing = here. Compiled by Ishkish - this is an even better text describing the entities within Fantasy Quake. Very useful!

GLQuake users: If you want to convert those maps to the GL version, merely download and run VISPATCH. (I'll have to redo this - hang tight for a few days while I re-vis all 34 maps again.....) More information about Vispatch and what it does can be found on Razor. All maps which previously were exempt from GL'ing are now going to be GL vised.... so even if you used the old vispatch, you may want to download this again.

Download the manual here (1.4 megs) = extract into a convenient directory somewhere, and browse with your webbrowser.
