Just a quick note I finally released the version 0.92 program. Not sure why I sat on this for so long... Mostly it adjusts balance issues, and fixes a couple little bugs.

I am not working on Fantasy Quake further. I have, however, begun work on a Half-Life conversion of a fantasy nature. I'm not going to give any more information at this time (and please don't ask for any, I won't respond), but there's a good chance that when the time is right, the new mod will take over this web site, so check back once in a while.

A couple weeks ago I made the version 0.91 patch available for download. Before you ask, "Does this mean FQ is back in development?", no, not really. The monster graphics had been in my possession for a long time, I only finally just implimented them and a few other changes. Details are available on the download page.

There may be more updates, but nothing major. I'm mostly working on some long-standing bug fixes, and tweaks to balance the classes for deathmatch.

While a sequel isn't immediately planned, and most of the rest of the team has gone on to other things, I still daydream about ideas. Once my responsibilities with Quake 40K lighten, we'll see what happens...

The navbar is fixed, sorry about the delay in fixing it, but I had a busy weekend of LAN parties as well as the Music Midtown concert in Atlanta to attend. While I was at it though, I added some nifty mouse-over texts to the image map, just for the thrill of it.

Well now comes the bad news - sit yourselves down for this one and hold a loved one's hand - it is with no small regrets or feelings of loss that I am announcing on behalf of the entire team that as of today, Fantasy Quake: Rise of the Phoenix is officially no longer in development. The version standing now is to be considered the final version. Really, it should come as no surprise, since the last official public version was released months ago. There will not be a Quake2 version.

The team has been more or less disbanded for about six months (guessing) now, because some of us have been hired away, or have more important interests and projects elsewhere, so for now and the foreseeable future, there will be no more projects from Team Phoenix.

We had a blast producing Fantasy Quake, and we loved every minute of it; the long hours, sleepless nights, and whatnot for no pay was still worth it, just to have the chance to create something wonderful, and provide you, the gamers, a few hours of enjoyment and the chance to see our collective vision of a truely magical fantasy world. Fantasy Quake, without a doubt, went the farthest in achieving the true status of a free TC, and among the 4 or 5 other fantasy-genre TC's that were under development at the same time as Fantasy Quake, we took it the farthest and accomplished more in a shorter period of time, despite the whopping setback we suffered about a year ago, when we were forced to change the entire project in mid-development. While Fantasy Quake still had some ground to cover before it could technically be called a true TC, it came really damn close, and that should count for something.

So what happens now to this site?

It will remain standing until the big wigs in charge of Stomped decide that the hits are too low for the site to pay for itself, at which time the plug will be pulled. This currently not a problem, we're pulling 400 hits or so a day. In the interim, I will be doing some rework to the site to make it more self-maintaining, as well as some simplifying of the site. Who knows? Fantasy Quake may prove to live up to it's namesake, the Phoenix, and live forever....

On a goodbye note, check out the news archives. I've added a little history bar at the top. It's real cool to see the headlines and the dates, and track the development of Fantasy Quake across it's one-year lifespan.

I do not predict any more news updates that concern Fantasy Quake, but the news page will be kept up for now, just in case a public announcement or something is called for. Be sure to check back every now and then. Until then, may your soul soar with the Phoenix.
