Getting the files!

You have many options. Choose the one that's more appropriate for you. You can snag the whole mess in three zips,

1) the progs.dat
2) the models/graphics, and
3) the levels,

or you can get the entire TC by way of Splitfile, where it's all broke into 1.44 meg (or smaller) files. This is also good if you wish to tote RotP around on floppy disk. (Egad! Better buy the economy pack....)

Most Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I Install this thing!

Download and extract the ZIP's into your Quake directory. It'll make the subdirectory FQ for you and all other necessary subdirectories from there.

(Winzip - use the default "use folder names", in PKUNZIP use the -d option when extracting.)

That's all there is to it.

How do I play it?

Start Quake with the -game fq -winmem 12 option. The full path therefore would be

quake -game fq -winmem 12 +map fqrotpst

If you can throw more memory at it, then do it. Be sure to load in the map FQROTPST, else you'll be on standard Quake levels.

I tried to load a save game, but suddenly none of the commands work for my character! I get "unknown command" errors!

What you are witnessing is a Quake limitation. Quake has few provisions for working with savegame files - in fact, it's almost untouchable, so there doesn't seem to be a way of telling Quake to load up the .cfg file for a particular character upon loading a savegame. The workaround is a bit of a pain; start a new game of Fantasy Quake and load in your character you were using in your savegame (press HOME), then load in your savegame.

Another way is type EXEC (character) CFG in the console to load in the cfg file for your class; here are the names of the .cfg's:

So an example would be like so:

I start FQ, and immediately load my savegame as normal, and then drop the console and type EXEC NECRO.CFG to load in my keys for the Necromancer.

I just had some ideas how to simplify this........

Is there a Quakeworld version available? Are you working on one? Dammit, I want a Quakeworld version!!

No. After the final is out, then a Quakeworld port will be investigated. Right now Capture and MUD modes have higher priority. Remember, Quakeworld is strictly Deathmatch, which although is highly supported in RotP, it's not our primary focus.

How do I play internet RotP?

The best deal is to edit a new q95.bat. Open q95.bat with Notepad or DOS EDIT, and insert after "quake"

-game rotp -winmem 12

Again, if you can throw more memory at it, do it. -winmem 16 would be plenty enough.

I'm lame. I no nothing about playing Quake over the internet. How do I do that?

We're a bit busy to hold your hand at this point - but there are some other good sites out there for internet-gaming newbies. I recomment planetquake - check in their "newbie guide".

I have GLQuake. Do I need anything special?

No. Download the regular maps, then get the VISPATCH prog for them.

The game starts up, but I can't choose a class! There's nothing in the main chamber of the start map at all.

You forgot to download/properly install the progs.dat. Unzip it in the quake/rotp directory.

The game starts up, and I am definately playing the patch, but I always start on the Quake start map.

Load in the map FQROTPST, either on the command line (+map fqrotpst) or by dropping the console (~) and typing "changelevel FQROTPST"
